I'yard new to gog. I but bought Duke Nukem, Ishar 1 and 2, and Redneck binge. I noticed as I had finished downloading them all that the system requirements were XP or Vista. I ran one of the setup apps in XP, and wondered if I could then accept the files installed, fire them to a CD, so copy these files to an one-time 486/Pentium computer, and simply run the games? (I like retro PCs, it's what I'yard in to.)

Quite a few games on GOG accept been modified from the original version to ensure meliorate compatibility with XP and Vista. I imagine this would cause issues if you then tried to run these modified games on a Win9x or older OS. But if you lot've already bought the games just give it a shot and see what happens... far more reliable than my idle speculation.

You should be able to run the games fine. "Modified for XP/Vista" in many cases ways "comes with preconfigured DosBox for XP/Vista". Losing the DosBox and just using plainly Dos should then be entirely possible.

I'm in a like predicament. I've tried this with Redneck Rampage and was able to get the game to run on an older machine using Windows 98, but I haven't been able to get the CD Audio to work. They included disc images with the GOG install, merely they use odd file extensions (.gog and .inst) that I accept been unable to get working. I've tried renaming them to .bin and .cue files, but it doesn't seem to make them valid images I tin can work with. I wish they'd requite you the selection of downloading the games in their original oldschool format in add-on to the DOSbox emulated versions they offer now.

Just original oldschool format = potential DRM.
